Thankful Thursday #8

Welcome to another Thankful Thursday, where we come together to focus on the positive. It’s been awhile since the last one; I had at one point decided to nix the Thankful Thursday posts, but recently changed my mind and decided to do one the third Thursday of every month.

I changed back for two reasons. One, I would like my readers to have an obvious reason to participate in the blog once in a while. Two, I believe it’s important for people to come together as a community and remember their blessings. It not only helps us get through hard times, but also gives us the courage and motivation to move forward with our goals.

Here are my five reasons to be thankful for this week.

1. The ability to eat.

Earlier this week I admitted that my son and I had been hit with the stomach bug that’s going around (I can’t help but notice this happened a couple months after deciding we didn’t need to take in probiotics – and it’s been almost a decade since I had any sort of stomach bug!). Now, I am very grateful to be able to eat normally without experiencing stomach twinges and huge amounts of gas, which I have the past while my system was recovering.

2. Our new pets.

I made a video:

3. Southern winters.

I have a bunch of kale, broccoli, cabbage, lettuce and herb seedlings starting upstairs. I love this time of year when I don’t have to worry about constant watering and when it’s actually pleasant to work in the garden. In the summer down here in zone 8, gardening is a miserable experience. But the months of February, March and April are a joy for the Southern food gardener.

4. Our new outside heating unit.

It set us back almost $3500, but it’s nice to have warm air coming out the vents instead of cold.

5. My husband’s late-shift schedule.

This week Jerry is home until about 1:30 p.m. and then goes into work until late at night. It’s not all that fun for him, but when he’s on this schedule we actually have more time as a family and I get to get my work done in the morning – when I’m at my peak – without being rushed.

Your turn. Comment below on what you’re recently thankful for!
